Triclosan CAS:3380-34-5
High Thermal and UV Stability: Remains stable at temperatures up to 290°C and demonstrates strong resistance to UV degradation, contributing to an extended shelf life.
Low Volatility with Mild Odor: Exhibits minimal evaporation and emits a subtle floral scent, ideal for applications requiring long-term stability.
Broad Solvent Compatibility: Soluble in various solvents such as alcohols and alkaline solutions, offering enhanced versatility in formulation design.
Favorable Safety Profile: Shows low toxicity levels, ensuring safe usage across a wide range of product applications.
Triclosan appears as a white crystalline solid with a faint aromatic or phenolic fragrance. It has low solubility in water, can dissolve to a certain degree in dilute alkaline solutions, and dissolves easily in organic solvents including ethyl alcohol and acetone. Moreover, it can be combined with surfactant systems to produce transparent and stable concentrated solutions.
This compound features excellent stability during storage and good heat tolerance, with slow thermal decomposition only when heated to 280–290°C. When exposed to 200°C temperature for 14 hours, its decomposition rate remains as low as approximately 2%. It also shows strong resistance to ultraviolet light breakdown, while its solutions stay stable in both acidic and alkaline environments. Furthermore, triclosan has extremely low volatility and keeps a mild aromatic scent throughout long-term use.
